Resurrection: Understanding the Easter Gospel

Resurrection - Book ImageIn April and May 2015 a couple of reading groups will meet to consider together Rowan Williams’ Resurrection: Interpreting the Easter Gospel. Each of the meetings will consider one of the chapters of the book in sequence.

Clicking on the “Look inside” book image on this web page will give you an overview of what the book is about.

The details of the groups are as follows:

  • Tuesday nights 7.30pm in North Melbourne – the Dryburgh St Manse – commencing Tuesday April 14 (then 21, 28, May 5 and 12)
  • Friday mornings, 10.00am, Habitat Uniting Church Hawthorn in the Augustine library – 2 Minona St, Hawthorn – commencing Friday April 17 (then 24, May 1, 8, 15).
  • You are welcome to attend either group variously through the series – the Tuesday and Friday groups will be considering the same chapter each week
  • (There is a possibility of another group close to the city if there is sufficient interest)

Please let Craig know if you are interested in one of these study groups, preferably via the registration form on the study web page; if you’re keen and can’t make one of these, let me know and we might be able to convene another in those weeks. (Contact: Craig Thompson, minister at Mark the Evangelist, craig@christologia.net.)

The book is available electronically (at least on Kindle, and possibly other formats from other suppliers) and via other online book sellers; The Book Depository is a reliable source which can usually deliver books within a week or so. Other online sources can be found here. Please note that these links are to the second edition (2002 and later), which will be the reference edition for the studies. The second edition does not vary much from the first but is the one to go for if you need to get a copy (so be wary if purchasing a secondhand copy). If you already have the first edition it’s probably not worth purchasing the second. The book is a “challenging” read, both in terms of its content and Williams’ writing style. To assist participants in the reading groups, a brief summary of the flow and argument of the book will be available prior to the commencement of the series. This will be sent to registered participants when it is finalised.

These discussion groups are organised by the Congregation of Mark the Evangelist(Uniting Church, North Melbourne), in conjunction with Habitat Uniting Church, Canterbury and Hawthorn.
